From the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office: On Thursday September 18th, a jury found Cordell Carter Sr. guilty of 1st degree murder in the shooting death of Jennifer Johnson. The original incident occurred January 14th, 2014. During the investigation and subsequent follow up it was determined that the victim’s sister Jamie Leigh Harper violated the Code of Virginia § 18.2-19 – Accessory After The Fact. This offense was committed before the July 2014 change to the law. On September 19th, Investigators with the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for Jamie Harper. She was arrested on Monday September 22nd. Harper is currently out on a $5000.00 secured bond.
