Some Nelson County residents are wondering why a public hearing wasn’t held regarding a possible munition warehouse. The Nelson County Planning Commission discussed the site plan for the new facility last month. According to the Nelson County Times, there’s no need for approval from the Board of Supervisors or a public hearing because the property is zoned in an industrial district. The facility would be used in part for storing ammunition and firearms; but officials say all firearm testing will be done inside the building, and the room would be designed to be sound proof and to collect all lead dispersed. The commission is expected revised site plan materials at its next meeting.
