A bill requiring the reassessment of the way dams are evaluated by the state is now enacted. Residents of the neighborhood around Ivy Lake had requested the repeal of restrictions changed after the dam failed to meet the standards. The Department of Conservation and Recreation will develop a new model to calculate the Probable Maximum Precipitation used to gauge dam safety requirements through a storm-based approach by December 2015. The News & Advance reports, repair work on Ivy Lake dam, however, will still need to be done; even under the much lower standards.
