Officials in Amherst have partially lifted a decade-old moratorium on new water connections within certain areas of the Town. Since 2002, the town has put a hold on any new water connections to an area near U.S. 60 past the traffic circle, since a greater number of connections had deteriorated water flow. The New Era Progress reports that Council passed a resolution earlier in the month adjusting the conditions. Now, according to the article, no new connections to lines smaller than 12-inches will be added in the service area outside of the town’s limits– The terms will exist until water mains are “enlarged and extended” or if a hardship is determined to exist.
