A man convicted of attempted murder in connection with an April 2013 shooting will receive a new trial. 32 year old, Hasan Sami Abdussalaam, accused of shooting Jemell Johnson, of Lynchburg, in the leg, pleaded not guilty. In February he was convicted on multiple charges including attempted murder. The News & Advance reports, the defense, last week, requested that the court dismiss the charges or set a new trial and reopen evidence in the case, arguing a “material witness” was not able to testify during the bench trial. The judge has allowed the charges to be tried again; a new trial date is expected to be set early next month.
