The Bedford County Board of Supervisors this week proposed allocating available capital-improvement project money to buy a fire truck, but stipulates the departments chipping in. The funding will come from the 2015 budget, which is still being drafted; but county staff and volunteer fire department representatives are expected to discuss cost-sharing. According to the News & Advance Fire trucks can cost upward of $1 million and would require a contribution from whatever fire station gets the new truck. If approved in the final budget, about $800,000 would be specifically available for fire apparatus in the spending plan to take effect July 1.
