A joint commission of law enforcement officials have planned a news conference this afternoon to discuss a cold case search in Bedford County. Local, state and Maryland investigators will speak about the Lyons sisters case today at 3pm. Sheila and Katherine Lyon disappeared from a Washington D.C.-area shopping mall in 1975. In September, investigators began searching the Thaxton area, around Taylor’s Mountain which was once owned by the family of Lloyd Lee Welch Jr. Welch, who has been incarcerated in Delaware since 1997, was named a person of interest in the case in February. Welch has several relatives in the Bedford area.
