Lynchburg authorities are alerting citizens of the latest telephone scam. Officials tell media outlets that a scam is making its rounds, in which an incoming phone call on your caller I-D, appears to have been made from the sheriff’s office’s main number. The announcement cautions residents of a man making the calls; threatening to send deputies with an arrest warrant for the resident unless payment is made on an unpaid bill. The scammers ask for a social security number. Police urge citizens not to EVER give out any personal information over the phone and ask anyone receiving a suspicious call to contact law enforcement.
