Chickens Allowed…With Regulations

A proposal to allow chickens in residential areas has been approved by Campbell County Supervisors; the measure will now be added to a list of zoning amendments up for vote this spring when the zoning ordinance is updated. The code still would treat chickens as poultry but would allow them in other zoning districts as an exempted activity. The update will permit residents to keep up to 10 hens on their property in residentially zoned areas with various coop and keep regulations. No roosters are allowed. The board’s decision regarding allowing bee-keeping was put on hold until officials can research ordinances in other localities and speak with beekeepers before advancing that portion of the amendment.
