RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – A subsidiary of Liberty University is suing more than 400 property owners and businesses over who should pay for state-mandated repairs at a lake the school owns. The News & Advance reports reports that Liberty wants property owners who live near the lake and benefit from it to help pay for some of the costs to repair the dam. The school received the 112-acre lake as a gift from a developer in 2008. In 2009, Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation told Liberty it needed to repair the dam’s spillway. The school has said the repairs could cost $1 million.
