Police unions across the country are advising officers to take precautions. But the Lynchburg Police Department says they stress officer safety on a daily basis. For the past several months the topic of national discussion has centered around race relations and police violence…but the recent high alert call will have little change in the Hill City; where each officer is already required to wear their bullet proof vests at all times. The LPD issues high alerts only when there is a direct threat to the department. If the threat is valid, then officials will determine what precautionary measures they’ll advise officers to take. Media outlets report, The Roanoke Police Department also shares a similar practice.
