UPDATE: Police looking for suspect in attempted robbery

krogerLynchburg Police are investigating an attempted robbery early this morning at the Kroger on Wards Road.

Police say officers responded to a reported attempted robbery call shortly after midnight at the grocery store. Employees and witnesses tell investigators that a black man entered the business, pointed a handgun at the cashier, and demanded money.

He’s described as about 5’9” to 5’11” tall, with a thin to medium build and light to medium complexion.

The suspect then assaulted the cashier before fleeing the scene on foot. Minor injuries were reported.

From the Lynchburg Police Department: On August 4, 2016 at approximately 00:07 AM, officers with the Lynchburg Police Department responded to a report of an attempted robbery at the Kroger at 2012 Wards Rd. Employees and witnesses reported that an adult black male about 5’9” to 5’11” tall with a thin to medium build, and light to medium complexion entered the business, pointed a handgun at the cashier, and demanded money. The suspect then assaulted the cashier before fleeing the scene on foot. Minor injuries were reported.

This incident is currently being investigated by the Lynchburg Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
