Bedford County Supervisors yesterday approved the purchase of nearly 50 acres next to Liberty High School for a new middle school to serve the Liberty attendance zone. The news isn’t welcomed for all, as some residents have been pushing for a new high school and converting Liberty to a middle school instead. According to the county’s School Superintendent, the school board is not comfortable moving forward with a high school without the county’s blessing. Despite the majority of school board members favoring the LHS campus, last night, some frustration was expressed regarding officials passing over a site off U.S. 460 next to the Bedford Area Family YMCA. School officials have asked for a joint meeting with the supervisors in the next two months to discuss the type of school to build.
