AmherstCountyPublicSchoolsAn efficiency study of Amherst County’s public school system began this week. The consulting firm, contracted by the state, started the process of accumulating data needed to recommend cost-saving strategies. The Board of Supervisors requested the study; and in February, appropriated funds for half of the study’s costs. So far, information compiled includes the division’s budget for the last three years and how many miles a school bus travels. According to the New Era Progress, officials next week will be visiting schools in teams of eight–each member of those teams will have a different specialty, such as transportation, facilities, instruction and human resources. In the coming weeks, Division staff members will be interviewed — from principals to custodians — to determine employees’ roles and responsibilities.
