Suspect in custody after malicious wounding on Memorial Ave

Lynchburg PoliceLynchburg Police responded to a malicious wounding call at Star Quality Used Cars at 1811 Memorial Ave yesterday after the victim attempted to stop a suspect who was breaking into a vehicle. Authorities say according to witnesses 34-year-old Christopher Heater of Spout Spring confronted a black male suspect who was attempting to break into a vehicle at the business. The suspect pulled out a knife and began stabbing the victim multiple times on his arms, legs, and abdomen area.  The suspect also attempted to stab and rob a second victim at the scene but was unsuccessful. The suspect then fled on foot behind the business toward Pollard Street. Police say officers found Heater suffering from multiple stab wounds. Heater was transported to the hospital where he is receiving treatment. During the investigation 23-year-old Shawn Hamlette of Lynchburg was developed as a suspect. Authorities arrested Hamlette without incident in the 400 Block of Chambers Street. Hamlette was charged with: Aggravated malicious wounding, attempted malicious wounding, and attempted robbery.
