The News & Advance reports that studies conducted by the National Park Service over the past decade showed many views were vanishing, as depleted maintenance budgets prevented the cutting and clearing the overlooks. This week the parkway’s plant ecologist, began leading a 10-man crew, described as “elite chain saw professionals” from across the country, who specialize in tree maintenance and cutting. The goal, according to the article, is to try to restore some of the views that were first designed in the 1930s.
