When Amtrak extends service from Lynchburg to Roanoke; Bedford won’t be added to the list of stops. The Bedford County Board of Supervisors, in December, passed a resolution requesting the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation to have a Bedford Amtrak stop. The reasons why the request was denied including distance between existing stations, projected ridership, and frequent stops affecting scheduling. In an agreement signed in January, between the state and Norfolk Southern, improved tracks and a newly built station could have extend Amtrak passenger-rail service beginning no later than the fall 2017.
