Lynchburg City Council on Tuesday adopted an ordinance spelling out the criteria for non-emergency ambulance services. Eliminating the number of non-emergency calls to ambulance crews has been a years-long goal of the city’s emergency medical services team; and officials plan to begin to certifying providers soon. There are three applicants; each must meet the criteria in order to qualify for a local operating certificate. Centra is currently the only private ambulance service in the area, but only shuttles patients between Centra facilities.
