The winter storm is finally over! No storm-related injuries or long-term and widespread power outages were reported in the area—but, there were dozens of crashes across Central Virginia and at least two deaths were blamed on the storm elsewhere in the state; The Virginia State Police responded to more than 4,000 calls for service. Of those calls, nearly 1,100 stemmed from traffic crashes and another 1,100 resulted from disabled vehicles. Officials are urging motorists to continue to exercise caution when traveling and if possible, delay travel until crews have an opportunity to clear the streets–Authorities say drivers should remember not to follow closely behind snow plows and to reduce speed, especially on bridges and overpasses.
