Officials Discuss Ways to Repair Statue & Increase Security for Its Bayonet

Lynchburg officials are exploring new ideas to make the Doughboy’s bayonet stronger and prevent future mishaps. Ideas are being debated and suggestion considered regarding security measures. The piece of the statue has been broken off twice in the past two years. Discussions are in the early stages and officials say no decisions have been made regarding the bronze soldier at Monument Terrace. According to media outlets, city administrators will meet with the Lynchburg Historical Foundation and restoration sculptor in the coming weeks.
