The state’s emergency response agency plans to ask CSX to help develop a procedure that would allow for modification of train schedules during special events. Riverfront Park has become a festival venue, located near the river in downtown Lynchburg, it is very near the spot where a fiery train derailment occurred on April 30th. City officials evacuated much of the downtown…and the incident, still has many asking the question “what if”? The Department of Emergency Management hopes to work out an arrangement with CSX that will keep trains away during large public events.
