Route 221 corridor between Forest and Lynchburg has been prone to collisions in recent years. In hopes of alleviating congestion, a study conducted by the Region 2000 Local Government Council, is underway from Cloverhill Boulevard in Bedford County to Forest Brook Road in Lynchburg. The study is in the data-collection phase and includes probing traffic information, crash statistics and mapping. Officials hope to have the study concluded by June 2014. According to media outlets, the Virginia Department of Transportation is also conducting a study on a stretch of Rt. 24.
