The Virginia Department of Transportation has applied for a safety grant to look at a Campbell County railroad crossing for safety concerns. A train struck a tractor-trailer on Thursday morning– the third incident to occur at the Goodman Crossing on Powell Road since 2005. State Police are still investigating the cause of Thursday’s collision; a similar mishap on Oct. 4 was caused when the tractor-trailer bottomed out on the crossing. Officials say there may be little else that can be done. There are already signs posted at the crossing warning of the hump and prohibiting trucks longer than 40 feet.
