UPDATED NEWS  RELEASE: Virginia State Police Trooper T.Z. Beams is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash in Campbell County. The crash occurred April 15, 2020 at 8:20 a.m. on Route 29/Wards Road at Route 699.

A 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier was westbound on Route 699. The vehicle failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection and pulled into the path of a 2013 Honda Pilot that was traveling north on Route 29. The Honda was unable to avoid the Chevrolet and struck it in the side. The impact of the crash caused the Chevrolet to overturn in the median.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Cerile M. Taylor, 79, of Gladys, Va., died at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Honda, Karen M. Baise, 42, of Keeling, Va., was not wearing a seatbelt. She was transported from the scene for treatment of minor injury.
The crash remains under investigation.

NEWS RELEASE: At 8:29 a.m. Wednesday (April 15), Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash in Campbell County. A Honda SUV and a Chevrolet Cavalier collided in the 800 block of Wards Road, a few miles north of Altavista. There was one confirmed fatality. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
