Amherst County officials say the need remains and a decision regarding a new Monelison public safety building will need to be reached. Discussions for the consolidation of the Monelison fire and rescue departments with the construction of a new building or expansion of existing facility, which is about 50 years old, has been ongoing for several years. A space needs study was conducted and presented in 2014 officials say regardless of the choice made either renovation and expansion, the final outcome will not only need to meet the county’s needs now but will meet our needs 20 to 25 years from now. A potential site for the public safety building is a lot within the Amelon Commerce Center in Madison Heights.
