The former Phelps Road School in Madison Heights could be re-purpose. According to a recently submitted rezoning application, the proposed use for the property would be to provide affordable housing. Phelps Road School Development Company LLC has filed the necessary paperwork with Amherst County requesting that the property be rezoned from public use to residential 3. A spokesperson for the company, tells media outlets, the plan is to build 36 apartments. The application is scheduled to go in front of planning commission next month; if approved, the project could be complete by 2017.
