Plea Agreement Drops Rape Charge To Sexual Battery

A Rustburg man has pleaded guilty to one charge of misdemeanor sexual battery. 22 old, Treandous Randell Cuthbertson, had been charged with rape. But in a plea agreement, pleaded guilty last week to the amended charge. Prosecutors say in October 2012, the defendant and victim had gone out and had been communicating via social media when the incident occurred. The Altavista Journal reports, the plea was not an Alford plea, where a defendant pleads guilty, but maintains his or her innocence. Cuthbertson will serve the maximum sentence of 12 months in jail.
