A Bedford woman is behind bars for allegedly hitting a man with her car on purpose Wednesday night.   It happened at the iStorage facility on Lakeside Drive in Lynchburg.  Police caught 39-year-old Melissa Gilmore after she ditched her car at the Speedway and tried to hide in a field nearby.  She’s charged with felony hit and run, DUI, and property damage.  The man was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Woman Arrested after Hit and Run on Lakeside Drive

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg Police Department has arrested a woman after she purposely struck a man with her vehicle on Lakeside Drive last night. 

On November 10, 2021 at 9:34 p.m., officers responded to the iStorage facility located at 2637 Lakeside Drive for a report of a hit and run with injury. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man who had been struck by a vehicle. The man was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  

The driver fled and abandoned the vehicle at the Speedway on Lakeside Drive. Officers located her hiding in a nearby field and took her into custody. 

As a result of the incident, Melissa Gilmore, 39, of Bedford, is charged with the following:
