State Police have identified the man killed in last week’s Bedford County officer-involved shooting. Authorities say 32-year-old David Mendoza came here from California just two weeks earlier.. A sheriff’s deputy shot and killed Mendoza after he rammed the deputy’s car, got out of the stolen pickup truck he was driving and started towards the deputy. That happened about four hours after a Moneta area home invasion in which Mendoza reportedly tried to steal a car from a woman. Officials have not release the name of the deputy involved in the shooting, who is on administrative leave pending completion of the state police investigation.
