UPDATE:

Hundreds of people gathered at Iron and Ale restaurant in Cornerstone yesterday for a vigil to remember 28-year-old Tyler Shane Johnson,who was killed in a shooting there Friday night. This, as the suspect, 31-year-old Derek Allen Lewis was taken into custody in Jacksonville, Florida around 2:00 Saturday afternoon. Derek Allen Lewis faces numerous charges, including  

Witnesses have said it happened after Johnson who is the owner’s son, asked Lewis to leave the restaurant for causing a disturbance. Iron and Ale was closed over the weekend; no word on when it might reopen. 

[UPDATE 2] Suspect Arrested in Cornerstone Street Homicide  

LYNCHBURG, Va.- Derek Allen Lewis was taken into custody in Jacksonville, Florida around 2:00 p.m., today. 

Lewis was taken into custody at the Jacksonville International Airport without incident and is being held in Florida pending extradition proceedings.

Suspect Sought in Cornerstone Street Homicide 

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) is searching for a suspect in Friday night’s homicide at Iron and Ale Restaurant on Cornerstone Street. 

Derek Allen Lewis, 31, is wanted in connection with the shooting death of Tyler Shane Johnson, 28. 

Charges on file for Lewis include the following: 

Lewis was last seen wearing a red shirt and red pants and was operating a black 2017 Ford Escape bearing Virginia license plates: 9157VH.  

Lewis’s whereabouts are unknown at this time. He should be considered armed and dangerous.  If Lewis is seen, do not approach and call 911 immediately.
