A public hearing for Amherst County’s proposed 2014-15 budget will be held this evening. In an effort to bridge a projected deficit, County Supervisors last month approved advertising a real estate tax increases of 14 cents; and a 70 cents increase in personal property tax. The County Administrator tells media outlets that the over 4-million dollar proposed shortfall is due in part from decreases in county revenue such as a reduction in taxable real estate following the 2014 general reassessment. The public hearing will be held this evening at 7:00 in the auditorium of Amherst County High School. The county schools’ budget also will be presented.
