The Amherst County station of the Virginia Department of Forestry recently received a 300-gallon truck to help in its battle against wildfires. The New Era Progress reports the new truck differs from fire trucks used by conventional fire departments because it has high-pressure pumps that can shoot water a greater distance and can pull water from bodies of water with depths of about six inches, including creeks or swimming pools. The truck is stationed in Amherst but, according to the article it, can be dispatched to Nelson or Campbell counties.
