The site of a former fertilizer plant near the James River soon will undergo remediation efforts to address contaminated soil. The News & Advance reports, the site located near RiverWalk Trail and Fertilizer Road in Madison Heights will be removed and replaced. It is the second time ExxonMobil has attempted to address soil issues at the site, which include the presence of contaminates such as arsenic and lead. According to the article, the site was first identified in 2008 for remediation work under the Voluntary Remediation Program of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
