Sweet Briar College now has its own chapter of Help Save the Next Girl. The organization was started by the parents of Morgan Harrington, a 20-year-old Virginia Tech student who disappeared from a Metallica concert in 2009 and whose remains were found months later. Organizers say the idea to establish a local chapter was in part from the Alexis Murphy story. The Nelson County teen disappeared in August. The man accused in her abduction was charged with first-degree murder Jan. 6. Sweet Briar’s Save the Next Girl was approved in November and currently has17 student participants. According to the chapter president, the club plans outreach projects such as teaching rape aggression defense tactics.
