Amherst County School officials have employed a state-approved contractor to monitor and offer support services to work with division personnel in the implementation of school improvement plans at the five schools accredited with warning. According to the New Era Progress, the plans must document a number of items, including measures to raise student achievement and how the school will meet accreditation benchmarks. Schools that do not achieve designated passing rates on Standards of Learning exams are accredited with warning and are required to implement a three-year school improvement plan.
