The Amherst County School Board has approved an efficiency study of county schools. The study, which is expected to take several months to complete, will be conducted by the Virginia Department of Planning and Budget in order to identify cost-saving measures. The New Era Progress reports, the school division must complete 50 percent of the recommendations or achieve 50 percent of the potential savings that are identified within a two-year period. According to the article, if the threshold is not achieved, the school system must pay back 25 percent of the cost of the study.
