The Amherst County man charged in a series of home burglaries spanning seven counties in Central Virginia pleaded guilty Tuesday to six felonies in Albemarle County. 34 year old, Kevin Scott Burchardt is responsible for a string of break-ins across the region; he has been indicted on 31 charges in up to 19 jurisdictions in Central Virginia, including Amherst and Nelson counties. Media outlets report, Burchardt initially faced 19 charges in Albemarle, but prosecutors agreed to withdraw 13 counts as part of a deal that calls for him to serve a 28-year sentence, which likely would run concurrently with his penalties in other jurisdictions. A sentencing hearing for the Albemarle county thefts is set for April 22.
