Settlement Money Will Go to Local Police Departments

Local law enforcement agencies across the region will join several other localities throughout the state in receiving money from a legal settlement. The funding comes from a 2012 fraud case against, global healthcare company, Abbott Laboratories Inc., According Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli’s office, the company unlawfully promoted a drug not approved by the Food and Drug Administration –resulting a federal fine of $1.5 billion. The Lynchburg Police department, Bedford County and each of the surrounding county sheriff’s departments will receive a portion of that settlement.
