From the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office: On 10/18/2015 at approximately 10:00 p.m. the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Sage Lane in Madison Heights regarding a suspicious person. When deputies arrived on scene they located Evan Patrick Cater, 31, of Sage Lane, hiding near a neighbor’s dog kennel in the woods dressed in camouflage and wearing a mask. Cater, who was intoxicated and in possession of a firearm, was taken into custody and charged with trespassing, wearing a mask in public, and being under the influence while carrying a concealed weapon. In addition, Cater was found in possession of bacon covered in an unknown substance. The owner of the dogs are monitoring the animals for any potential poisoning. Cater was transported the Amherst County Adult Detention Center where he was released on a $15,000.00 secured bond.
