The Lynchburg area is at slight risk for severe storms today. According to the National Weather Service, a strong cold front pushing through the area late day could spark severe storms by evening. Weather experts say a “slight risk” means there is a 30 percent chance of 58-mph-plus winds or 1-inch hail — happening within 25 miles of any point in the risk area. The potential for damaging winds is present mainly this afternoon and this evening; followed by four days of decreasing temperatures.
