The busy season is approaching for the Smith Mountain Lake Airport in Bedford County. The New Jersey couple that bought the airport in October has already put new self-service/credit card fuel pumps on the runway. More changes include areas for maintenance and radio work repair, expanding the run way so the next level of air-craft, like corporate jets, can land. While the airport does not provide scheduled passenger service, people who vacation at the lake fly in and out, especially in the summer.
