Nelson County officials are considering a new admissions tax at local events. If enacted, the revenue could “be earmarked for a specific project. The Nelson County Times reports, according to the Code of Virginia, the county only has the legal authority to implement a 1 to 10 percent rate to admissions at spectator events only. The next step locally, is for the ordinance to be advertisement and a public hearing held. If the county should decide to tax another category involving participatory sport events, it would have to request approval of legislation from the Virginia General Assembly to amend the state code.
