UPDATE:State Police have released the name of the victim in Friday evening’s collision at the intersection of Timberlake Rd. and Enterprise Dr.  Police say a car trying to turn onto Enterprise from Timberlake was hit by an oncoming car, with one vehicle landing on another. 22-year-old Jonathan W. Campbell of Roanoke was making the turn and is charged with failure to yield right of way. He wasn’t injured. The other drive, 57-year-old Matthew J. Burns of Rustburg, Va., was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene. A female passenger suffered minor injuries. 

Here is the entire news release from State Police: Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal crash in Campbell County. The crash occurred Nov. 25, 2022 at 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of Timberlake Rd. and Enterprise Dr. 

A 2007 Toyota Corolla was traveling east on Timberlake Rd.. As it made a left turn onto Enterprise Rd., it pulled into the path of a westbound 2017 Jeep Wrangler. The Wrangler was unable to avoid the Corolla and the two vehicles collided, with the Wrangler coming to rest on the hood of the Corolla. 

The driver of the Corolla, Jonathan W. Campbell, 22, of Roanoke, Va., was not injured in the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt. 

The driver of the Wrangler, Matthew J. Burns, 57, of Rustburg, Va., was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene. An adult female passenger was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt. 

Campbell was charged with failure to lead right of way. 

The crash remains under investigation. 

EARLIER: At 5:49 p.m. Friday (Nov. 25), Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash in Campbell County. The two vehicles collided near the intersection of Enterprise Dr. and Timberlake Rd. There is one confirmed fatality. The crash remains under investigation.
