The number of annual drug crimes in Virginia has increased for the fourth year in a row. According to a recently released State Police Crime Report; drug crimes last year were down slightly overall, in the region, but numbers varied widely among jurisdictions—for instance. The News & Advance reports, in Bedford, there were nearly 300 arrests made on drug offenses. The 2013 report found that violent crimes including robbery and aggravated assault were up from a year before, but there was a reduction in larcenies and burglaries across the region.
