Study to Be Conducted on Bedford Sewer Overflow

The Town of Bedford’s sewer system has been showing signs of wear for years. No policy had been made since the city, now town, merged with the Public Service Authority to create one Bedford County authority to control water and sewer. But now, a policies and projects committee has proposed measures to address the sewage overflows into homes. Suggestions include an improved, more extensive monitoring program; preventative maintenance to remove roots and trees; as well as adopting a policy relating to private property damage. A study will be conducted by staff during the next two months to better determine the extent of the problem. Sources say it will likely involve sending cameras into sewage pipes.
