wlni-defaultUPDATED 1:35 pm — From State Police: Bomb techs with the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office responded to Liberty University Wednesday morning for a report of a suspicious package. The object was disrupted and rendered safe. With the assistance of the ATF, the object was identified as a piece of HVAC equipment. The scene has been cleared. State police was assisted at the scene by Lynchburg University Police and City of Lynchburg Police.

UPDATED 12:15 PM — State Police have removed the “suspicious object” and University Boulevard is once again open. There is no word yet whether the object in question in fact posed any real or potential danger.

PREVIOUSLY: Liberty University Police and State Police are investigating what is termed a “suspicious item” on University Boulevard, one of the main roads on the Liberty Campus. Police are blocking the roadway. A text from university police says there are “potential safety concerns on campus in the area of LaHaye Ice Center”. While the text is titled “Immediate Life Threatening Situation”, the message that follows says “There is no identified danger at this time.”  Here is the full text:

“Immediate Life Threatening Situation. LUPD and Virginia State Police have identified a potential safety concern on campus in the area of LaHaye Ice Center and University Blvd. Please stay out of that area and obey all instructions given by emergency personnel. There is no identified danger at this time.”
