From the City of Lynchburg: Bonnie Svrcek, Lynchburg’s new City Manager (effective July 1, 2016) announced the appointments of an Interim Deputy City Manager and Interim Human Resources Director to assist in the transition of the City’s leadership. Lynchburg City Council appointed her to the position in May. She succeeds former City Manager L. Kimball Payne, III, who retired on June 30. Svrcek was hired as the Deputy City Manager in 1999. Svrcek’s appointment has left the Deputy City Manager position vacant, and a nationwide search was conducted to fill the vacancy and over 50 individuals submitted applications. In order to ensure continuity of service while the selection process continues for a new Deputy City Manager, Human Resources Director Margaret Schmitt has been appointed to the position of Interim Deputy City Manager. Heather Brown, currently serving as a Senior Human Resources Manager, has been appointed to the position of Interim Human Resources Director. Both appointments will be effective beginning July 5, 2016. Schmitt has served as the City’s Human Resources Director since 1999 and Brown has been employed in the Human Resources Department for approximately five years.
