A search warrant affidavit reveals that 46-year-old Laura Phelps Hess suffered a gunshot wound to the neck. The News & Advance reports, when an officer arrived early Friday morning in response to a possible shooting, he encountered her son Joshua Phelps outside of the home. The 18 year old told the deputy that he had shot the gun. According to the article, investigators found a .22 caliber bolt action long rifle in the hallway where deputies also found Hess. The teen now faces one count each of felony murder, firing into an occupied dwelling and using a firearm in commission of a felony in connection with the death.
