Amherst County authorities say the crime rate in the county fell last year. According to statistics released by the Sheriff’s office, the total number of investigations of arson and forcible rape cases were among the dropped. The total number of offenses decreased overall, but some categories saw a shift upward; including aggravated assaults and murder.
