The fate or future of the Phelps Road School will once again be the topic for Amherst County officials to consider. In 2001, the Amherst County Board of Supervisors voted to demolish the former school. In 2013, the county condemned the structure and filed suit in the courts for sale of the property for delinquent taxes. According to the New Era Progress, the old school, which was built in 1928, is set for a tax auction next week. The county’s request for demolition currently is pending in the courts. The Board will also consider planning options for the Train Depot at the June 3rd meeting.
